Group Childbirth Education
Ann Arbor Baby Beginnings offers group childbirth education classes in a variety of formats, including four week and condensed (two week or one day) options. All of our instructors are Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educators, the highest standard in childbirth education. Our small group classes focus on giving families evidence based information so that they can approach labor and delivery feeling confident and able to make informed decisions about their health care. Our classes cover the stages of labor, comfort measures for labor, relaxation techniques, options for pain management, vaginal delivery, c-sections, common medical interventions, postpartum planning and the early postpartum period. This is not your mother's Lamaze! Whether you are striving for an unmedicated birth, or know you want an epidural, we will provide you with the information and skills to make decisions that are best for you and your family. We recommend that you choose a class that finishes by the time you are 37 weeks pregnant. If you go into labor and deliver your baby early, our cancellation and refund policy still applies.
Designed for moms and their babies from newborn to crawling, our Mothers Group provides vital support and information for new moms. Each group meeting begins with discussion on a topic pertinent to newborn development and parenting. Many moms form friendships in this group that last for years! Whether you have only a short maternity leave, or will be home with your baby for longer, don't miss out on the invaluable resources this group has to offer. Though the group runs in 6 week sessions, you may join at anytime at a prorated rate.
Pregnancy and Postpartum Support
Making the transition to being a parent (or having another child) is a big step and a major life change. Ann Arbor Baby Beginnings is proud to offer a number of services for families making this transition. We offer a three-hour in-home postpartum planning session aimed at preparing you both practically and emotionally for the next step in your journey. For new parents who need a little more support after baby arrives, we are proud to partner with Jodie Hughes to offer postpartum doula services. And for the one in seven moms and one in ten dads who experience mood or anxiety disorders in pregnancy and the postpartum period, Amy Lawson LMSW, PhD is available to provide specialized therapy. Great for second time parents, our private childbirth refresher class is a 1.5 hour class held at your home at a time mutually convenient for you and our instructor. You can choose the topics or issues most important to you. Our instructors generally review relaxation and comfort measures and the partner's role in labor and delivery. If it has been a while since your last birth, we will also review any changes in hospital labor and delivery procedures. Second time moms with first-time partners are also welcome!
