Postpartum Planning

Smart families plan ahead! The transition to parenthood is a wonderful, but life altering event. To help with the transition, we offer a personalized, three hour in-home consultation including topics such as: preparing your home for baby, arranging support in the early postpartum period, arranging childcare, planning changes to your daily schedule, relationship changes, infant sleep, infant safety, infant feeding, baby-proofing, and the back to work transition. Because this class is personalized to you, you can choose the topics you would like to focus on most. This consultation is best used in addition to a childbirth class. We recommend that you schedule this class during the third trimester of your pregnancy or the early weeks postpartum. Cost of the class is $150. To learn more and see if this might be beneficial for your family, contact us at info@annarborbabybeginnings.com

Postpartum Doula services

Ann Arbor Baby Beginnings is proud to partner with Jodie Hughes to provide postpartum doula services. As a postpartum doula, Jodie Hughes is passionate about providing non-judgmental practical and emotional support for new families. In our busy fast-paced lives, many new mothers find they miss out not only on the hands-on help of the past, but also the informed perspective of a friend or relative who has been there. By mothering the mother and nurturing the new family as a whole, Jodie works to create a sense of calm and to ease the transition to parenthood. Her goal is to work herself out of a job by facilitating bonding and building a lasting sense of confidence within the new family. You can hire Jodie for just a few hours or use her services over many weeks. Some examples of the way Jodie can support your family are: help with self-care and postpartum recovery, watching the baby and/or older children so mom or partner can rest, parenting information and resources, infant care (bathing, feeding, swaddling, sleeping, safety issues), breastfeeding information and resources, basic baby massage, preparation of simple nutritious meals and snacks, running errands, and light housekeeping. Rates begin at $20 per hour. To contract for services, a ten hour minimum, spread out in whatever way works for you, is required. To meet with Jodie and see if she might be a good fit for your family, please contact us at info@annarborbabybeginnings.com.

In addition to her role at Ann Arbor Baby Beginnings, Amy also serves as one of the Michigan coordinators for Postpartum Support International. Amy is pleased to offer her services to new parents, either through an in-office or home visit. Office visits take place at the Center for Family Psychiatry in Saline, and current insurances accepted include Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Blue Care Network plans and Medicare. In home visits can be arranged with Amy privately. Babies are welcome to come with you to your appointment! Rates vary, depending on location and your insurance.
